IPL 2023 : Former SRH skipper David Warner to lead Delhi Capitals in Rishabh Pant’s Absence, Axar Patel to be Named as Vice-Captain.

Australian Opener David Warner, who is the IPL all-time leading overseas run-scorer, will lead Delhi Capitals after released by Sunrisers Hyderabad after 2021 campaign of the season. Warner is currently suffering with the elbow injury issue. He is likely to recover from his injury and will be available for the three-match ODI series starting from March 17, against India and the IPL starting from March 31st.

Rishabh Pant, who was named as Delhi Franchise permanent captain at the start of the 2022 season. He is recovering from a horrific car accident happened in January last month. He may take at least 6 more months to become fully fit, hence miss the entire IPL 2023. Under Pant, Delhi had a mixed season last year where they won seven matches and lost as many to finish fifth on the points table.

Warner to lead Delhi Capitals, Axar will be his deputy

David Warner will reportedly lead IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in the absence of Rishabh Pant. Warner has scored 432 runs in 12 games at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 150.52. He has scored five half centuries in IPL 2022 playing for the Delhi Capitals. Additionally Axar Patel will lead as the Vice-captain for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League’s 16th edition (IPL 2023). This is confirmed by the team management in a report. “David will be our captain and Axar Patel will be his deputy,” a member of the Delhi Capitals told Cricbuzz.

Axar is in great form across all the three formats. He is also performing brilliantly well in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in test matches. The left-arm orthodox bowler has emerged as a top all-rounder. He is contributing unexceptionally great with the bat as well as the ball in the recent matches for India.

Delhi Capitals IPL 2023 Campaign

IPL 2023 kickstarts on March 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with defendng Champions Gujarat Titans taking on MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. DC will start their IPL 2023 campaign on April 1 when they take on Lucknow Super Giants in an away fixture.
