The Indian Premier League 2023 will commence on Friday with a match to be played between Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Gujarat Titans. This could be the last IPL for Chennai Super Kings captain and Indian legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Former Indian cricketer MSD will have a chance to register a big achievement in his name in IPL 16. With only 22 runs in the tournament, he will join the club of players who have scored five thousand runs in IPL.
He has so far scored 4978 runs in 206 innings of 234 IPL matches. During this, his best performance has been 84 not out. Once he scores 22 runs in the upcoming edition, he will become the first wicket-keeper batsman to score 5,000 runs in IPL.
Till now not a single wicketkeeper has been able to achieve this feat. Dhoni can complete his five thousand runs in the opening match of IPL 16 itself.
He also had 170 dismissals in 234 matches which is most by any wicketkeeper in IPL history. Dinesh Kartik follows with 159 dismissals in 229 matches.
He will become the seventh cricketer to achieve this feat as a batsman. Earlier Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and AB de Villiers have scored more than five thousand runs in IPL.
