Young England all-rounder Sam Curran has been bought by the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction. Curran, who had a base price of Rs 2 crore, has been bought for Rs 18.50 crore.
He has become the costliest player sold at auction in IPL history so far.
The most expensive player before him was Chris Morris (16.25 crores).
He could not play in IPL 2022 due to injury.
Curran has played 32 matches in the IPL so far, in which he has scored 337 runs with the bat at a strike rate of around 150. In bowling, on the other hand, he has taken 32 wickets at an average of 31.09.
In the T20 World Cup 2022, Curran took 13 wickets in six matches at an average of 11.38 and an economy rate of 6.52, for which he was adjudged the ‘Player of the Tournament’. He became the highest wicket-taker from England in one edition.
